Secondly, last night my friend Jacoba and myself went to see Public Enemies. It was a little bit disappointing, unfortunately, but still good. My main problem was the way in which it was filmed – it was filmed using HD video and so it looks more like a TV show than a film and a lot of the movement is very strange. I think HD video can be appropriate for certain types of films, but for a gangster movie set in the 1930s? I don’t think so. I’m a very visual person and like my movies to be visually appealing and stylish and for the visual style to suit the narrative. However, it was still a good story, the cast was great (not to mention the two leading men provided some wonderful eye candy) and the attention to detail with the costumes was quite superb. I still don’t think it’s a film that needs to be seen on the big screen, though.
I still made sure to dress for the occasion.

Dress: 1930s crepe dress, Red Ruby Vintage

My hair was in a rather bad way so I was fretting for a while trying to think of something to do with it. I decided to see if my hair was long enough, again, to do this style and, it is. It’s not absolutely perfect because I was too lazy to pin down some of the little poky bits but, well, cinemas are dark, aren’t they?

Also, for anyone who hasn’t seen it, yet, Fleur de Guerre wrote an article for Queens of Vintage about her beauty routine. Check it out, if you haven’t done so - you can red it on her blog here or at Queens of Vintage here. For Australians who are looking for Pond’s Cold Cream for the first time and despairing in your fruitless search, fret no more – apparently Dove Deep Cleansing Cream is the exact same thing. My mother says it smells exactly the same, too.

your header reminds me very much of you! i think it's cute.
ReplyDeletei heard that movie was a bit of a disappointment. daniel said other than johnny depp playing an excellently handsome 30's gangster dude, it wasn't appealing.
oh darn.
great post, love it!
ReplyDeleteThe header is cute!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress you wore to the movie.
Before I pay to go see Public Enemies is it worth paying for it?
Bethany: Hurrah! Thanks. =] Christian Bale was also very handsome, though! Haha. And Marion Cotillard is charming.
ReplyDeleteMiss Matilda: Thanks =D
Angel: Thanks and thanks. =] Hm, if you're a fan of any of the main actors or really into the genre and you're not bothered, like I am, by the filming, I'd say it's still worth paying for it. It's a good film but not the best I've seen. I've paid for much worse films, though.
Very nice header! It's super cute.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me started on the movie Public enemies! ugh...
ReplyDeleteyes cute banner!
yep, love the banner. Adorable dress!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the new header! Very cool. And that yellow dress is to die for! I can't wait to see Marion Cotillard's wardrobe! Wish the movie was better...
ReplyDeleteJohnny Depp is eye-candy indeed, even my husband cannot argue that! I look forward to the movie... too bad about the disappointing bits though!
ReplyDeleteOh, the new header is great! :D

Aya: Yes, Johnny certainly is easy on the eye. ;] And thank-you. =]
Reilly: Thanks. I just adore the pattern!
Lizzy: Thank-you. =D
Terrific new header, I noticed it immediately and like it a lot!
ReplyDeleteI know it's getting rather luke warm reviews, but if only for JD in 1930s garb, I know I'll see Public Enemies sooner or later, too :D
You look so amazing in that 1930s frock, and I think your hair was just beautiful!
Wishing you a splendid week, hon!

Love your new header!! I can't wait to see public enemies, but I'm not too sure if i'm going to see it at the theatre now, i might just have to wait for dvd.
ReplyDeleteOh goshh--I'm so glad you mentioned that thing about the HD filming!!! That bothered me the whoole time, and when I kept complainin' about it my friends had no idea what I was talking about! The movements and everything just seemed really strange and especially out of place for a '30s film! It really took away from the whole feel of it! Haha, sorry the mini rant! But, I thought it was o.k....it's just the whole time I kept thinking to myself it should be James Cagney, not Johnny Depp! Oh dear, and your dress is probably one of the greatest little dresses I've seen! Lovely, lovely!

Jessica C: Thanks! I'm glad you noticed and like the header. Yes, it's well worth seeing JD all dressed up. ;] And thanks again. =D
ReplyDeletePretty Little Pictures: Thanks. =]

Looove the dress and the hair! :)
ReplyDeleteLauren: Hehe, thanks. Just keep trying - it's not as tricky as it looks. I just put my hair into pigtails, plaited them and pinned them to the top of my head.
ReplyDeleteMargaux: Thanks! =D
