Silver Screen Sunday {The Seven Year Itch}

Today's edition of Silver Screen Sunday can be seen as my plea for Summer to return (the heatwave can stay away, though - that was horrible!) so I have picked one of my favourite summer movies: The Seven Year Itch directed by Billy Wilder.

As it's such an iconic film I had a difficult time looking around etsy and other places to find appropriate clothes...I did find a reproduction of the white dress, though, on Big Beautiful Barbara Brown, which is lovely.

In lieu of the usual amount of clothes and things, I have screencaps of my favourite outfits from the film

Helen Sherman's travelling outfit is just too sweet - I love the details of the gloves and hat.

See the woman on the right with the red hat? I covet her dress. The buttons up the back are fabulous.

It might be a little difficult to see but I love the feather in this woman's hat!

This lounge suit is the perfect shade of candy pink.

Some of the best outfits are seen in Richard's fantasy sequences - this sequined get-up is one of my favourites. It's spkarly and it's red! How could I not like it?

I wish I could have got a better shot of this one. Never mind, though - I think this is a perfect summer outfit. It's glamorous yet still casual.

Could I really go past including a shot of that scene?

And I just love this cute nightie - isn't it sweet?

I thought I might finish up with a few quotes that I think are great (as well as some good pieces of advice)

"When it gets hot like this, you know what I do? I keep my undies in the icebox!"
My mum actually does this sometimes (ssshhh, don't tell her I told you). I've never tried it, though.

"Until you are able to commit a simple act of terror, I strongly advise you to avoid anything as complex as murder."

"Your imagination! You think every girl's a dope. You think a girl goes to a party and there's some guy in a fancy striped vest strutting around giving you that I'm-so-handsome-you-can't-resist-me look. From this she's supposed to fall flat on her face. Well, she doesn't fall on her face. But there's another guy in the room, over in the corner. Maybe he's nervous and shy and perspiring a little. First, you look past him. But then you sense that he's gentle and kind and worried. That he'll be tender with you, nice and sweet. That's what's really exciting."

If anyone hasn't seen this film, I highly recommend it. Here's a trailer to give you a bit of a taste.

I hope this has still been enjoyable even though it's slightly different than the others.

Love,
Andi B. Goode

  1. I love this movie but I've never actually seen the whole thing... every time it's on TV I need to go out before it ends... oh and I always join it at the piano bit lol.

I think I'm going to have to watch the whole thing.

I love these posts Andi, keep them going!

  5. I'll have to keep an eye out for this one - I've never actually seen Marilyn Monroe act! My local library is pretty well stocked with the classics, so here's hoping!

  7. You know what's a bit sad? I've hardly ever seen any of her films other than maybe one, and I think it's because I am a big Doris Day fan and I felt M.M. was competition of sorts. I recently added M.M. movies to my netflix que. HOpefully soon I can get over my issues. haha. This was a great entry.

  12. She is adorable in this movie. I was surprised that you don't see a full shot of her dress skirt lifting over the subway grate. I guess that came later for marketing the image.

  13. I love this movie! It's so funny and the fashions are just wonderful! You're right about it being the perfect summer movie, it was the only film I could watch during the heat wave that hit Vancouver this summer. Although I don't keep any clothing or potato chips in the ice box, I do keep my liquid eye makeup in the fridge so that it doesn't melt.Perfect screencaps!
