Valentine's Lindy Lounge

Last night I went out to the first Lindy Lounge of 2010 - the theme was Valentine's so it was suggested that everyone wear something red. I took the opportunity to finally make up (or, rather, get my mother to make it for me) a suspender skirt like I've wanted for ages - we shortened a circle skirt pattern and basically just added straps to it. It was that simple! And in true 'make do and mend' fashion, we used a table cloth that was too big for the table to make it.

Outfit details: ribbon - ?; blouse - Big W; suspender skirt - made for me by my lovely mother; socks - Big W; shoes - Spend-Less.

It twirled out very nicely when I danced - unfortunately I felt very icky for most of the night so only danced once. After the dancing at Cushdy was finished we moseyed on down to the Garden of Unearthly Delights and danced some more after we got food and drinks (pizza and Coke for yours truly), of course.

The skirt is definitely more 1950s as it is a circle skirt but I think I'm completely in love with it and got loads of compliments on it, too. I've been wanting a skirt like this for ages - long before I started Lindy Hop classes - and it's just so much fun to wear! I can't believe how easy it was to make, either.

ReVamp Vintage has a very cute repro A-line skirt with suspenders (detachable) for sale, that I absolutely love:

Found here.

Hope you are all having fabulous weekends.

Love,

  2. LOVE IT! The color is amazing on you. And I adore your hair.

BTW, you would totally rock the bathing suit you loved on my site. I think I am just too darn old for it ;p

  8. You look adorable. I can't believe that skirt was made from a tablecloth. You and your mother are definitely resourceful. :)

  10. Ahh! So awesome! I am totally making a suspender skirt this week too... but not in red. I have been dreaming about one! I'm sorry I missed that Lindy Lounge, and I haven't even been to the Garden yet! Yikes.

  11. That's gorgeous! I've wanted to make something like that for a while, but with the wider straps to give it more of a 1940s feel.

  14. Possibly the most adorable look I've seen on your blog. Or maybe it's just your incandescent smile :)

  15. How clever you both are; the skirt turned out beautifully! Red is my most favourite colour and it looks great on you! It would be totally easy to make up an A-line version too, and use less fabric ;) I really do love this style, I might have to make one up myself :D

  17. That skirt is adorable! I love suspenders! (but they rarely rest well on me, I have the wrong porpotions I think).
Just one question; did you make it into a full circle skirt? And were you really comfortable dancing with it? I have a really nice full circle skirt, but I rarely dance in it. It flares up so high, even if it's ok modesty-wise (slips are the thing! =)), if the dancefloor is crowded I sometimes feels it's almost a bit in the way for everybody else...

Ah, well! You look fab! =)
