Musical Interlude {Tom Lehrer}

At the Peaches 'n' Gin Burlesque show on Friday night the MC (whose name currently eludes me - I'm too lazy to look it up) did a rendition of Tom Lehrer's Masochism Tango. This reminded me of what an amazing song it was and I thought I ought to share it on my blog.

First, though, a little bit about Tom Lehrer who is actually someone I personally know very little about. Wikipedia offers a fair bit of information, actually - you can see the full article here but this is the little overview from the beginning:

Thomas Andrew "Tom" Lehrer (born April 9, 1928) is an American singer-songwriter, satirist, pianist, and mathematician. He has lectured on mathematics and musical theater. Lehrer is best known for the pithy, humorous songs he recorded in the 1950s and 1960s.

This has definitely become one of my all time favourite songs since I first heard it sometime last year:

Another sweet love song (which hopefully doesn't offend the animal lovers who read my blog)

As I mentioned, I don't know a lot about Tom Lehrer nor do I know a lot of his songs, I just happen to love the ones I do know. Quite a few of his albums are available on CD, via Amazon, and a quick search on youtube will bring up loads of videos. Both of the songs I've put in this post are on the 1959 album An Evening Wasted With Tom Lehrer.

And, finally, a non-related question - does anyone miss my regular Style Icon and Silver Screen Sunday posts? Although I've been back into blogging rather well, I've found I can't settle on any ideas for either of my regular posts! That's the reason there hasn't been once since I've been back from my 'blogging break'. Actually, I've had a few half-formed ideas but I don't like them to look rushed or half-hearted so I've sort of been floundering with them.

I hope everyone has had a lovely weekend and that this post was the icing on the cake, so to speak.

    I miss your Style Icon posts, i look forward to the next one :)

  3. #(&$(&!!!! I LOVE TOM LEHRER! *ahem* Sorry for that outburst, but seriously--Tom Lehrer is the greatest. I heard "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" on a Dr. Demento album a while back and I was in love ever since. I love Evening Wasted, but That Was the Year That Was is also really awesome, especially for history buffs like me. :D

  4. OMG! I love Tom Lehrer!!! No one ever knows who I'm talking about when I mention his name.

    Poisoning Pigeons in the Park is sooo funny.

    You're a gal with exquisite taste!

I read and greatly appreciate each and every comment. Thank-you! x
