On Saturday night I headed out to town for Ruby's birthday celebrations. For once I didn't plan my outfit days in advance and ended up picking something on the day. I quite forget just how lovely this dress is to tell the truth...
Outfit details: hair flowers - ?; 1950s earrings - gift; faux pearl necklace - Adelaide Vintage & Fashion Fair; 1940s dress - etsy; stockings - Love Kylie; shoes - Rubi Shoes.
It's quite strange but I always feel slightly more self-conscious with an up-do...it's almost as though my usual hairstyle has become a bit of a security blanket for me (just as red lipstick has).
One of the many things I love about this dress is that it has a matching jacket!
Another thing I love is all of the lovely little details like the gathering at the shoulders, here.
Being the wallflower that I am (I'm not kidding - if I don't know an awful lot of people at a party or social gathering I generally end up spending a lot of time standing alone, trying my best to look lonely enough so that someone will come and make conversation with me...) I asked my friend Kate to come along with me. You might remember her from one or two of the ukulele videos I've posted.
Love,
Andi B. Goode

You look so elegant with your hair up. And that dress is so perfectly 40s, I love it. You always look like you just walked out of a mid-century copy of Vogue; so put together and classic!
ReplyDeleteThe colours in the pattern on that dress are fantastic - you could make so many different outfits from it.
ReplyDeleteYou look smashing! Love ove the dress!
ReplyDeleteAnd i'm a wallflower too, too often... But i rarley go out

ReplyDeleteOoh you look so chic with your hair up like that. I love dresses with jackets too, my fave is a 50s ethnic print with a little matching bolero. Love anything that covers my arms!
ReplyDeletewow Andy you're beautiful! such a lovely outfit!
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous you look! Loveliest wallflower at the party, I'm sure. :-)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it strange how much is in the hair-do? I always feel like it either makes my outfit or spoils it =) Love this one you, the soft curls over your forehead is really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm also drawn to interesting details in dresses, gathers and shirrings can really make such a huge difference in how a garment is seen.
Looking lovely :) Love the dress.
ReplyDeleteI am useless at social gatherings.. great weather isn't it *roll eyes*
Hope the two of you enjoyed yourself :)
Oh my--you look so glamorous! I love the updo--very beautiful. I love how you said that red lipstick is a bit of a security blanket... I feel the same way! A lot of people don't understand how I could view something so bright like that, but hey--I just feel so much more comfortable with red lipstick. ;)

I like your hair up!
ReplyDeleteBut I have to admit I always feel self conscious with my hair up too, the only time I wear it up is to work because I have to.

well ,you certainly don't look like a wall-flower ;)
ReplyDeleteYou look brilliant. I have been eyeing those shoes at Rubi Shoes and I think you have convinced me to purchase them. I hope you had a lovely night.
ReplyDeleteI think you look wonderful with an up-do, you should do it more often :)
ReplyDeleteyou look absolutely beautiful, love the dress! I wish I had more occasions to dress up for..
ReplyDeleteYou look stunning with your hair up like that! I know what you mean though...I'm really self concious about having my hair up as it throws out my proportions. I think I have a small head to my body and rely on thick hair to even that out!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to see the clip of you singing 'tip-toe through the tulips' again, please tell me where it is hiding!
