Outfit: Wear It Purple

I found out a little too late that today was Wear It Purple Day to show support for gay youth at risk. You can read about it here. Anyway, the short story is I don't really own anything purple but I ended up wearing my Pendleton 49er which has some mauve-ish squares on it. Although, if you mix the pink and blue of my skirt and sweater that would also make a kind of purple.

At the end of the day, I suppose it doesn't really matter which colour I wore - it's an important issue and one that I personally think any decent human being should care about. And that's all that I'll say (mainly because I usually find it difficult to articulate myself when it comes to the serious side of life and I tend to ramble, too.)

Now on to the fun stuff - i.e. more pictures of yours truly!

Outfit details: Pendleton blazer - etsy; 1950s orlon sweater - Irving Baby; 1930s crepe skirt - Red Ruby Vintage; socks - We Love Colours; saddle shoes - Payless.

Slightly awkward angle.

Because I didn't have anything purple to wear I thought I'd draw someone wearing purple, too.

I watched Sally Potter's The Man Who Cried last night, so this is inspired by Christina Ricci from that film. I used to draw all the time and then I just I've made a promise myself to draw more often, though it's mainly just for myself.

And here's a song that fits the theme of the day quite well, I think - The Lavender Song sung by Ute Lemper:

You can read a little bit about the song here

  1. Love your blazer, and well done for showing your support for such an important cause.
You're very talented, I think you should show your drawings off more often! x

  2. Love your paper lady :) and your outfit with a cause too

    Happy weekend!

  3. I just write to say to say you that your smile is so nice. :)

  4. Sorry to go off the main subject of this post but I am loving the vintage mickey on the shelf in one of your pics

  5. Gee - I wish I had know that this morning! Anyway: great post! Have a marvellous weekend!

  6. Oh no, I thought the wear purple day was on the 20th! I guess I've missed it, too, then! But ah well, it's the thought that counts, anyway! Supporting the cause is more important than wearing a color. <3

  7. I had no idea about wear purple day, but it is indeed a very important topic. I too tend to ramble when speaking of serious things, so I'll leave that out of your commentsfield =)
Nice photos! The sweater is lovely, and it does actually appear to have a purple tone in the first picture.
    Have a great weekend!

  8. Cute outfits as always! I love the pairing of the red socks with the saddle shoes! I own two pairs of vintage 50s saddle shoes and I wear them with white socks. I may have to get some red socks!

The Pendleton jacket is lovely! Fall is here in the US and I have been on the hunt for a cute, casual topper.

  9. You draw so well! You should keep doing it. I loved that little pic

  10. Thanks so much, everyone. =D And I'm glad some of you liked my drawing, too!
    twinklez1985: I don't mind at all - I'm glad you noticed him! Hehe. =D
Lady Betty: Thanks. I used to just wear white too but something (possibly the film Swing Kids) inspired me to try coloured socks. =D

  11. Great outfit. It would be nice to think that one day there won't need to be a cause for something that should be a fundamental right x

  12. Hello!

I really love reading your blog, and have left a 'blog award' for you on my page at

    Enjoy! ;), Annie xxxx

  13. I love The Man Who Cried! Or, it's not the best of films but it has Johnny Depp as a hot gypsy, so... 'nough said!

  14. You are just so fantastic!

  15. I love the outfit you put together (even if it's not strictly purple--but I think the blue/red combo counts, right? ;)!!! And yay for drawing!!!! I really need to get back into the habit of doing it daily myself; I used to, but life happens. lol.

  16. That is an adorable drawing! The blazer is quite the score too.

  17. Thanks again, everyone!
Penny Dreadful: Thank-you. And I agree wholeheartedly!
the freelancer's fashionblog: Hehe, I really liked it. But do agree about Mr Depp ;]
Casey: Drawing is great but a tricky thing to get back into, somehow.

  18. Andi, put your drawing on "wat I wore" (drawings) pool on flickr, you could mark it, "what I wish I wore today"

  19. Sunny: That's a neat idea - maybe I should start doing outfit drawings, too. =D Thanks.

  20. you always look so cute and classy :D

I read and greatly appreciate each and every comment. Thank-you! x
