On Wednesday night I went to see West Side Story at the Adelaide Festival Theatre, hence the title of this post. I had lots of things I wanted to say about it but now I can't think of any of them. Shame on me for not writing them down, sooner! My Twitter 'review' when I got home immediately after seeing it sums up how I felt after, though: 'Just saw West Side Story. V. good. I approve. Fantastic choreography & orchestra. I approve of fine figured men in fitted clothes too. ;)' I obviously take note of the most important parts of a theatrical production, no?
Upon watching it onstage, I was reminded that I've always been more interested in the story of the Jets and the Sharks than I am in Tony and Maria's (if I'm to be frank, slightly ridiculous) romance. Before I step on any toes I shan't say any more on that subject (the romance) but I will say that, as in the film, it was the Jets I found most impressive onstage as well as the young woman who plays Anita. (Another thing to note is that the Puerto Rican accents were only marginally worse than most in the film). All in all it was a most enjoyable evening and I got to wear a dress I've been longing to wear out again for quite some time, now. I've only worn this dress once before - you can see that outfit post here.
This is one of my favourite songs from the musical (this clip is from the movie):
I love this comment on the YouTube page: If only teenagers nowadays burst out into glorious song whenever they felt misinterpreted by society...
For good measure, here is a photo of me partaking in one of my favourite pastimes (before I went out to see Kitty, Daisy & Lewis the other night): making silly faces at myself in the mirror. This time I caught it on camera.
Oh! And you can see even more of me here at Alice Jean's as the 'Living Doll' for January.
Love,
Andi B. Goode

P.S. I've noticed that the font has gone all small in this post. That seems to happen whenever I copy/paste text from somewhere else. As I'm too lazy to edit the HTML I shall just apologise for the oddity and hope it is still legible!

I have a few things to say, I love the dress, officer Krupke is my favourite song too and I was going to Kitty, Daisy and Lewis in September but couldn't go as it was my friend's birthday party and ever since I get slightly upset when I hear their name as some of my other friends went to see them with out me :( I bet they were jolly good though

ReplyDeleteI've still never seen WSS, I really must (am sure it will be better than Kiss Me Kate!). Love your dress, it fits you beautifully and the colour is just right for your complexion. x
ReplyDeletethat is just the PERFECT colour for you! you look wonderful, a princess with a story behind.. i don´t know girl.... but i am amazed by this dress on you! greatings from belgium!
ReplyDeleteLovely dress! How wonderful to get a chance to wear it. As for what you took notice of, you seem to have covered the important parts! =) After all, what one notices must be what one thought was important. If someone else see other things in a play: well, isn't it great that the same piece of art can be appreciated in so many different ways?
ReplyDeleteLove the "goofy" picture!
Very pretty! love your dress!
ReplyDeleteFabulous dress! I wish I could burst into song about things and everyone else would join in.
ReplyDeleteInstead, they just look at me funny. Hey ho.
You look so cute in that dress, adorable!
ReplyDeletebeautiful. I love West Side Story so much.Glad it was so good for you to see at that festival theatre.
ReplyDeleteOMG - you look divine! And Daisy Kitty and Lewis are fantastic, lucky you for seeing them ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha excellent youtube comment, its like how I'd love for people to just start dancing on the street a la Hairspray/Enchanted! Gorgeous dress, love an excuse to dress up! :)
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous, Andi! I love that dress--and the funny face photo made me giggle. I love taking snapshots of myself making funny faces, but always get too self-conscious about posting them. Must get better about this! ;)

Definitely one of my favorite songs from the movie (next to America, even though it's derived from a Spanish song tradition rather than a Puerto Rican one. But we'll let it slide). And Rita Moreno is truly amazing. Short hair and a sassy attitude.
ReplyDeleteI love how your hair is looking lately! Gorgeous pink dress too!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh. Thanks so much for all the lovely comments, everyone. You sure know how to make a gal feel loved. ;]
ReplyDeleteHonor: Oh dear. I sure hope you get to see them one day.
Erika: That's a very good point. And I love that, too.
casey: I'd love to see some silly face photos. ;]
Desiree: Ooh, that's interesting to know. I have to admit to not knowing an awful lot about music outside of, well, 'pop' music as a very broad term.
your dress is stunning, one of the most beautiful i've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteWhat a glorious outfit.
