Butterflies and sweater clips...

Here is another quick outfit post via my iPhone camera! I really have to admit that I've been feeling like I've mainly been forcing myself to blog for the past few months, or so, what with my mind being on one thing or another or just not having the energy for various reasons. I'm hoping I can pick up the slack and recommit (and reenergise myself) because I've loved blogging so much these past three years (I even missed my bloggiversary...). But here's an outfit for now...

Outfit details: Sunglasses - Reject Shop (I know! haha); 1950s dress - etsy; sweater clips - etsy; cardigan - Harris Scarfe; belt - gift; bangles - various; tights - equip; shoes - KMart.

As you can see I'm still not setting my hair. I've had a lot of tension headaches so I definitely don't feel like sleeping on anything but my unadorned head and soft pillow. And heat styling never works for me, especially not with how much hair I have right now!

IMG_5874
I need to buy more sweater clips. I've always loved them. I've had these for a while.

Pink tights! I spent so long wearing mainly period accurate stockings that wearing tights (in various colours) is still somewhat of a novelty to me.

PS I'd also like to note that I've turned off comment moderation (preemptively for when I'm away) but that means the CAPTCHAs are back. I know we all hate them but I seem to get too much spam without them. I may change my mind and just leave them off for the next month until I'm back...

Heyday! Vintage Style Gab Jacket Review

When I was asked if I wanted one of Heyday! Vintage Style's Gab Jackets in exchange for the sponsorship I receive from them I answered yes immediately. I've had my eyes on these jackets ever since they were released and if I'd had more disposable income/wasn't saving I would have happily purchased one. In fact, once I save a bit of money later on, I think I may have to get one in the harlequin check as well! But, first of all, let me tell you what I think of the jacket...

P8240276

As you can see I chose 'Evening Sparkle' for my Gab jacket - honestly, how could I go past all that sparkly lurex thread?! The fabric is a wool and viscose blend (with lurex thread) and it's fully lined - the jacket is light weight enough that I know I could comfortably wear this in slightly warmer seasons as well as being able to layer it with a very thin jumper in winter. Of course, this all depends on where you live and how well you deal with certain kinds of weather!

P8240277

I've stood at a slightly awkward angle here but I wanted to show off the back - it's very simple but I love how it sits with the fitted waistband.

P8240278

I've just realised this is a little too dark to properly see the details! But hopefully you can still see the pretty swirly buttons.

P8240281

I have to apologise for the lack of full length shots but hopefully this will show how it looks as part of an outfit - with the pencil skirt it is definitely looking a little more '50s...

P8240283

Oh, and it has REAL pockets. This can be a bit of a rarity in modern women's clothing so I was really excited. Granted, the pockets aren't very deep but, as described from the Heyday! website these: Finger tip pockets are just big enough to house your favourite lipstick and jukebox money.

Here is another shot to show off the gorgeous buttons and lurex thread.

I absolutely hate to use a picture of this quality in this post but, after taking the other photos, I realised it was a bit too cold for a skirt so changed into my (of late) frequently worn plaid capris. And confirmed what I'd already guessed - the jacket looks just as great with pants as it does with a skirt. As it does have the slightly more '40s-esque shoulders it would look great with wide leg trousers, too (as evidenced by the model shots on the Heyday! website.)

I know I've not written anything about pricing - that's because concepts like 'affordable' and 'worth it' are so very personal and individual so they change from one person to another. I can tell you that it is well made, will almost certainly last me a long time and that I can think of about at least 8 different outfits it will go with just off the top of my head. So, hopefully my review can be helpful in that respect!

I'd also like to mention that I'm completely completely in love with this jacket and wouldn't say nice things about anything if I didn't mean it (I do hope that goes without saying, though). And it will be coming away with me for sure.

Instagram August

I've never really bothered to do one of those Instragram roundup posts that other bloggers do but I've been relatively inactive here this month and significantly more active there that I figured...why not? Just this one time, anyway. So here are some (though not all) of my Instagram photos from August, so far...

instagram august 1
Went out dancing with my friend, Kate. She had an amazing 1980s peach blazer on, and I was wearing my favourite ASOS dress.

instagram august 2
Became completely enamoured with this Jessie (from Toy Story) doll because of the super cute vintage style box (meant to replicate the box the Jessie doll would have come in originally within the universe of the film). Also found the photo of me as Darth Vader (with plaits) hilarious.

instagram august 3
Bought some things for my wrist.

instagram august 4
I've always regretted not getting Minnie ears when I was in Disneyland so I asked my lovely friend Danielle if she could get me some on her next trip there. Clearly I'm very happy about them. Ha.

instagram august 5
Went out for pizza. Wore my new ASOS blouse (which is so good with '50s high waist pants), new kitty ring and vintage clover brooch.

instagram august 6
Was sorting through my stockings and things so took these photos of my favourite vintage stockings boxes (the yellow is actually my absolute favourite) and suspenders (which are from What Katie Did and Kiss Me Deadly.)

instagram august 7
The first photo I've ever taken of my vintage Barbie doll case and a photo of my latest '70s/'80s Barbie finds. Oh, the two dresses in the front are vintage Blythe!

instagram august 8
Some things on my walls: a Mickey t-shirt I had as a child (I guess it would be considered vintage?) and two of my favourite prints. The Vincent Price print (not currently for sale) is by Danielle and the Biker Eowyn is by Noelle Stevenson aka GingerHaze from her 'Broship of the Ring' series.

instagram august 9
I found this Figgjo plate at an op-shop for $2. I didn't know anything about the company but I've been told they're very collectable! And you get a sneak peek at my glorious Gab Jacket from Heyday! Vintage Style which I will be blogging about later in the week.

A couple of Barbies from the '70s

Once again, I'm feeling a bit frazzled and at a lost as to what to post about so I thought I'd share a little more of my Barbie collection. I know there are at least a few of you who enjoy my Barbie posts - I haven't made any in a while as I've been saving all my money so I haven't got any new-to-me vintage additions (though quite a few 80s-modern; 80s Barbies are actually my favourite but I don't know that they fit in with the rest of my blog. If you want to see them look here.)

The two dolls I'm posting about today are possibly stretching it in terms of the eras or styles that I tend to post about, though.

Kissing Barbie 1978
Kissing Barbie, 1978

When I first saw these dolls in other collectors' photos I wasn't too keen on them but somehow she's grown on me! She was in a lot of dolls that a friend of my mother's had and now she's in my permanent collection, after a good cleaning.

Kissing Barbie 1978

She has a button on her back that makes her head tilt up to 'kiss' and originally came with lipstick so you could leave little Barbie size lipstick prints everywhere - I'm sure parents were happy about that! Ha.

Kissing Barbie 1978

One of the things that I love most about her is the print on her dress - subtle flowers and little pink lips all over it. I also love the sheer overlay, though I feel that this sort of fabric isn't always the most practical for children's toys. Luckily this dress has survived pretty well!

Growin' Pretty Hair Barbie progress

This one is a work in progress as I need to reattach her arms and legs (once I find a second leg). At first, I was just going to rebody her (put her head on another body) but another collector said it could be worth fixing up the joints and keeping her on her original torso. She was also completely filthy but after I washed her I noticed that her colour is absolutely perfect. I got her for free so any money spent fixing her up is worth it, really. I've called her Loretta, for now, as her hair reminds me of country singers' hairstyles in the 60s and 70s.

As I said, I know a few of you are interested in my Barbie posts but I'm never really sure exactly which Barbie related things to post. So any feedback is appreciated about what sorts of Barbie related posts you might like to see. But I'm always updating my Flickr with new dolls so feel free to keep track of my collection there.

Another Quick Outfit Post

Spent my evening at the cinema again, yesterday, and I've just realised that I wore the same pants as I did last time! I guess they're good cinema pants, then? Oh, and the same cardigan, too. Oops. This is going to be another one of those quick posts as I'm still working on queuing up posts for when I'm away.
