Sunny Sunday

I actually took some outfit photos! That are not on my phone! Huzzah. They're not great but, hey, it's a start (again). Anyway, I think this outfit, or a variation of it, has probably featured here before. At least once if not more times than that. It's one of my favourite 'go to' ensembles for warmer weather and it was definitely warm (and very nice) yesterday. It was warm today, as well, but rainy and windy so posting these photos today is quite odd.

This outfit is a mix of vintage (necklace, skirt that used to be a 1970s dress, belt) and new (top, glasses and shoes) as many of my outfits are.

Dyed my hair again so it's all nice and fresh.

And a shot where I'm not hiding in the shadows. I truly do love this skirt - it's comfy and very nice to wear in summery weather. The sandals are pretty great, too, though after a lot of walking my feet were a bit sore.

Doll Spotlight: Havoc

For my second Doll Spotlight, I want to move away from my Barbie family and introduce you all to Havoc!

Before I tell you the story of Havoc, herself, I shall tell you the story of how we met. I was at the Antique Market on Grote Street, here, and I saw a shoe-box with a little doll sitting among a bunch of other bits and pieces. Her face looked familiar to me and I realised it was because she reminded me of a Mary Quant Daisy doll. I was curious about her and loved her on the spot but as the box was $40, and I was a bit short on cash, I decided to do a quick google and eBay search before I bought her. When I did, I found out her name is Havoc and she's quite difficult to find. (And she is, indeed, made from the same mould as the Mary Quant Daisy doll). This started to sway me but I still felt guilty for dropping $40 on her - after walking around the rest of the shop with the box tucked under my arm, I decided I couldn't leave without her and handed over the cash. Then I realised I wouldn't be eating but, it turns out, she was more than worth it.*

Havoc lot

When I got home I did a more intensive google search to sort out which bits in the box belonged to Havoc and which belonged to the Action Man that was also in the box. It turns out I have nearly two complete outfits, her original jumpsuit, her original stand and she has really soft, silky hair compared to some I've seen online. If anyone is interested in her, or similar dolls, I will say that she often comes with melt marks as you can see in the picture below. This is caused by a reaction in the types of vinyl/plastic used on the doll over the years. Her accessories also 'melt' together and so they aren't in pristine condition but they display nicely. I don't know the science behind the melting but it tends to be when softer plastic items are stored against harder ones for a number of years, which is why you sometimes see it around the hip or leg joints as there are two kinds of plastic constantly against each other. I was careful enough to pull the accessories apart without any damage and she has full movement in her legs.

You can read a bit more about Havoc at this site here and, now, some more photos of Havoc on her jungle mission!

Welcome to the jungle, we've got fun & games!

Welcome to the jungle, we've got fun & games!

As much as I love my very prettily dressed dolls, it's so much fun to have an adventure doll!

Welcome to the jungle, we've got fun & games!

Wow! This was a wordy post. I hope you all like the extra information but you can always just look at the pictures, instead. I wanted to have some snow-scene photos done before this post but never got around to them.

*I would just like to note that I am not fussed with resale value or anything like that when I collect - loving the dolls I have is more important to me than their monetary worth. But I also love knowing that I got a bargain and always have. It gives me a bit of a thrill!

Disposable Camera Photos

Well I wasn't entirely sure what else to post about, this week, but I got a disposable camera developed so I thought I'd post a few shots. It's one of those that has the borders in the film - it's a bit of a silly gimmick but I wanted to give it a go. Plus they're 'vintage' borders, you know. And apologies, in advance, for the sparse text. I'm still quite under the weather! (Which also accounts for the very lacklustre subject).

This one actually turned out well. It must have been from a few months ago, now - look at the length of my hair!

I waste a lot of film taking photos of my feet.

Oops - this one's a bit crooked.

The Bat-Corner. It's not very impressive - wouldn't mind a Bat-Shelf to put everything on!

And my Pullips plus a little extra.

I've got another couple of rolls of film to develop (sans borders) but they are mainly of markets, and things, so I don't know if they will make it to the blog. I'm trying to get into taking more photos on film, again.

A quick post with an apology

Starting this post with another apology for not posting much! I should be in the home stretch of my thesis but I'm feeling a bit behind. Couple that with having a bit of a cold these past few days and it's not left me much energy for blogging. I've got at least one post planned for this week and was hoping I'd have more but we shall see how that goes!

Here's a still of Gina Lollobrigida in Come September, for absolutely no reason.

If you need my e-presence in your life in the meantime, I'm still fairly active on:

Paper Tiger on Ukulele

Seeing as a small number of people have enjoyed my ukulele videos in the past, I decided I'd use one of my Feature Friday slots to post a ukulele video! It's a little late, this week, because I was pretty busy, yesterday. This time I'm singing Sue Thompson's Paper Tiger.

I'm wearing one of my vintage 1960s nylon nighties in the video as well! Ha.
And here's a video of Sue Thompson, herself, singing it. I really love her voice!

Sorry for the brief post. I had a big night last night so I'm tired, today, but hopefully some of you, at least, find this post enjoyable! And might want to see some more in the future.

Vintage fabric finds

Wow, I was going pretty well with blogging regularly for a couple of weeks but I've been so stressed about getting my thesis up to date that I've not been able to think of anything to blog about. Spending most days in front of my laptop in my trackpants isn't particularly inspiring! So, this is really just to apologise for not being around much and also to show off some vintage fabric I found a few weeks ago (via some Instagram shots...) Oh, while I'm apologising I should add in one for not commenting on other blogs much, lately.

I love that this still has tags/stickers on it! It's really neat seeing the John Martin's logo so long after it's closed. I still miss that department store, sometimes. And the quality seal is quite lovely!

And this blue is so lovely! The print is small enough that I will probably be able to make a matching dress for one of my dolls. Ha.

I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to make with these (or have my mum make with these...) but they're both very lovely fabrics. Being a bit of a perfectionist I'm always worried I'll choose the 'wrong' project and regret it later and so I end up with a lot of unused fabric. I'm determined not to let that happen this time!

And I do have an idea for this week's Feature Friday post, which will hopefully be somewhat interesting!

Instagram Round-up August

Wow! This week really got away with me and I didn't end up with any time for blogging. Eep. But I'm really glad that some of you enjoyed my Doll Spotlight! My doll collection has become a fairly significant part of my life so being able to share it is a lot of fun.

As another Feature Friday, I thought I would post an Instagram roundup the first Friday of each month, of photos from the previous month. For a while I thought that these were redundant until someone pointed out that not everyone has Instagram and even those who do, and follow me, may not see all the photos I post. So, each month I'll post the photos I liked best from my Instagram account (more or less) from the previous month.

L: At the cinema; R: the outfit I wore.
L: mod-esque dress; R: vintage Batman badge.

L: yum!; R: '70s interior.
L: Robots; R: badge from etsy.
L: Beauty School Dropout & Beautiful Blonde Pineapple; R: pink on pink.
L: heart mirror photo; R: four Tammys.

And if you do have instagram you can find me there @andibgoode.
